Shop Stuff

It's been a long time since I posted, but I guess that's my usual story.  Lately I've been working on a lot of stuff for my etsy shop, so I thought I'd do a post showing what I've been up to. I've been making mostly headbands and hair clips with vintage millinery flowers and glitter. Also, my velvet obsession has come into play, too! If I had to pick a theme for these items, I'd say it'd be Oktoberfest meets Swan Lake. Anyway, here are some pics! Shop link will be down below.

Cat's Eyes

                                                           Cat's Eyes- Cat's Eyes

How terrified are you right now? Let me tell you, every time I look at these, I want to scream, and I made them! I came up with the idea to paint cat's eyes on these sweater clips because I thought the shape of them would be perfect, and I was having trouble figuring out what else I could paint on that small and round of a surface.  The process of painting them was fun, but I did not envision them to be quite as frightening as they turned out. My inner macabre really came through on this one! Even though I am tooootally terrified of my own creation, I kind of wish I could keep them for myself, because I think they'd look pretty awesome on a sweater! However, I have to get out of the habit of creating things to sell and then keeping them for myself, so in the shop they go. Restraint!

P.S. When Sarah first saw these, she said they looked like velociraptor's eyes, which I think is even more awesome than cat's eyes! I almost listed them as that, but then I thought perhaps not many people would search "Sweater Clips in Velociraptor's Eyes" on etsy, haha!

P.P.S. Just to show you that not everything I make is terrifying, here are a few other things I've made the past few weeks! All in the shop!

Which 2012 Calendar Defines Me as a Person?

I love organization; alphabetizing, arranging, cataloging...you name it, I do it.  I think that's why I have such a hard time choosing a calendar each year.  It's something I'll look at and use every single day, and I want it to be functional and attractive.  Here are the calendars I'm choosing between this year - I hope you'll find one for yourself as well!

Anticipating a rough year?  This may be the calendar for you!  Plus, the lyrics are from my favorite Mountain Goats song.  Love!

This is the one I'm leaning towards.  I have a grand plan of painting one of my kitchen cabinets with chalkboard paint and hanging the current month from a tack on the cabinet.  Then, I'll keep track of weekly appointments, litsts, etc. using chalk on the cabinet!  Is it sad that I'm super excited about this?

I nearly hyperventilated when I saw the next selection.  It's practically calendar porn - function, design, practicality, *and* it's still usable when the year is over!  It's pretty perfect.

Dutch Door Press is one of my favorite Etsy shops.  I'm a frequent purchaser of their cards, and a big fan of their state series.  So, it's no surprise that I love their 2012 calendar, too.  The colors are so pretty!

Anyone who has seen my apartment knows I love a good wall hanging, and particularly a black-and-white one.  This calendar is printed on linen, and I can see it looking modern and fresh in any room.  Any of *my* rooms.  heh.  Maybe I need two calendars?

Next up is a beautiful collaborative effort with the sweetest watercolor paintings for each month.  Plus, each month's picture is easily removable via a perforated line and makes for instant art!

If anyone is interested in a few more selections, I've created a treasury on Etsy with the rest of my favorites.  I could so easily paper my walls with 2012 calendars - there are so many good ones to choose from!
If any of you have come across a perfect calendar, leave me a link in the comments!  I'd love to see what you've found!
