Ch-Ch-Changes

Hi Everyone!  I'm still alive!  I know I haven't written a post in a while (since February, I think), but I've had a really good excuse....that terrible flu I had that just wouldn't go away turned out to be PREGNANCY.  True story.  My wonderful partner and I couldn't be happier.  Porkchop (that's the name our dachshund has given the baby, according to Matt) is due in September.  :O)

Unfortunately, at my first ultrasound, the doctor discovered that I also have ovarian cancer.  Luckily, I'm now six months along and the tumors have not impacted my baby girl at all.  My nurse midwife and the doctors I'm seeing are so supportive and caring, I could not be in better hands.  It's looking like I'll be able to carry the baby to full term, and deal with the tumors after her birth.  I'm so thankful.

Needless to say, I have not been feeling too great throughout this pregnancy and definitely have not felt like having my picture taken!  However, now that I'm at 25 weeks along, I'm feeling more confident that I'll really get to met this little person who kicks and flips inside me all day long.  I'm ready to document the process, now that I'm fairly confident it's going to have a happy ending.

I have not spent much money on pregnancy clothes because, really, what's the point?  I picked up a few dresses that are maternity, but will also work after pregnancy, and a couple pairs of pregnancy jeans.  Other than that, I'm wearing tank tops a size or two bigger than usual, and my old cardigans.

tunic: Koch,  jeans: Gap Maternity,  sandals: Bass outlet

Dyna the greyhound and Bodo the dachshund.  They feel my pain on these hot summer days!

The tunic is from Koch, a line that I love.  It's a M/L, which just goes to show that it pays to try things on!  I think it's got a couple of months left in it before my preggo belly outgrows it, and I can't wait to pull it out next summer and wear it when I'm not expecting.  My favorite thing about it is that it's SUPER lightweight so it's comfortable even though I'm always a sweaty mess now.  Did I mention it's miserable to be pregnant in the summer?  Also, I stopped wearing makeup because the smells were making me nauseous, so I look like a ghost in these photos!  Yikes.

Anyway, it's so nice to be back to blogging!  I'm feeling better and better as the pregnancy progresses, so I hope to have some new things to offer in the shop soon, too.  I've been experimenting with embroidering onesies, so I may have a few of those to offer.

I hope you're all doing well, and that your summers are going splendidly!

Brand New

I've acquired a few odds and ends recently.

I've been wanting a nice tangerine color for my nails.  I finally found it!

Freshly checked out library books!

More library books.  I'm terrible when it comes to actually reading them.   I told myself I was going to only check out one book at a time, so I would actually finish reading it.  As you can see, I'm not good at following my own rules.

I also told myself I was going to stop buying white button-ups and clothing that's any shade of blue.  Clearly, I need more willpower. I liked the details of the Peter Pan collar on the shirt, and the skirt was too light and summery to pass up.

Walk in the Park

Dress: Vintage
Belt: Vintage from another dress
Shoes: Frorever21, DIY glitter
Necklace: Great Grandmother's

Here are a few pictures from my weekend. On Friday, Sarah, Matt, Erin and I went to this new pinball bar in St. Louis. It was a nice place. They didn't even make fun of me when I asked to exchange my $2 bills for $1 bills! I discovered that I'm super bad at pinball, but it was a lot of fun anyway!  My favorite ones were the Last Action Hero and Star Wars.  There was also skee-ball, which I already remembered I was bad at from all the times I tried playing it when I was younger.
This dress might be my favorite thing I have in my closet right now.  I say that about every dress that I  own, but it's true this time.  I've been wanting to find the perfect white dress for summer and I think this is it! I went to Blueberry Hill on Saturday (Yes, I'm admitting to wearing it two days in a row. Whatevs!) and wore it with a pair of  saddle colored penny loafers and my hair pulled back in a pony tail.  I liked it even better! I didn't capture a picture of it, though. Also, I don't know if 'saddle' is even a color, but I'm going with it.  I hope everyone had a good weekend, too!

Oranges and Peaches

 Dress: Vintage
Sweater: Anthropologie
Shoes: thrifted

I bought this dress last night at one of my new favorite vintage shops in St. Louis, and I loved it so much, I had to wear it to work today.  I was eying it a couple of weeks ago, and when I came back to look around and saw that it was still there, I knew that meant I had to buy it.  I think the pear, apple, and orange print is perfect for summer! Note to self -  next time, remember to wear lipstick. Yikes!

Today I got to witness my first high speed chase when I was coming home from work, although it didn't seem so high speed to me.  I was sitting in traffic on the highway, waiting for it to finally move, when this car drove by, followed by ten or fifteen cop cars.  At the time, I didn't really know what was going on, but when I got home and turned on the news, I found out what happened. It turns out the guy shot at some cops (on a street right next to where I work), and then proceeded to lead a chase that crossed into Illinois from Missouri.  Hooray! Somehow, I always end up in places where I witness some sort of weird, action-packed event!

Saturday Morning

    Shirt: Forever21, unicorn DIY
     Shorts: thrifted
     Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters

It's been a long time since I've logged into blogger! So long, that I didn't even realize there was a 'new look.'  I finally got my new camera, however, so I'm gonna update more! I'm still trying to figure out how to use it, but I'm hoping I can at least get good at the basics!
Anyway, not much has happened to me, other than I got a new job at a library in St. Louis.  I'm working as a kind of a substitute librarian, and right now I'm covering for a lady on maternity leave.  I've been working at her branch about a month, and I've got a couple more to go.  It's been a pretty good experience so far.  Daily, there are people who come in whose sanity I question, but I guess that's part of working in a public place.  It makes for good stories at least!
My mom, my sister, and I went out to the farmers market this morning and walked around for a bit.  That's where these pictures are from.  I took my camera along hoping to get more practice using it, but I chickened out and only took a few photos.  Does anyone else get super self-conscious taking pictures out in public (both taking the picture and having your picture taken)? I know it's irrational, but I feel like everyone is staring at me when I do it.  I had my mom take pictures of me on the secluded side of some old antique shop instead. I gotta get over that fear!

Layered Up

It's been a while since I've posted an outfit, so I thought I'd give it a go today.  I have been MISERABLY sick this winter, and on photoshoot day I was battling the flu, but you know what?  It was so nice to get out of the house for a few minutes, it was totally worth it.
I conscripted my boyfriend into photographer duty for this one.  He's really artistic, so I assumed he would be an excellent photographer, and he was....of birds, his dog, foliage, and the dreaded ACTION SHOT of yours truly.  Sigh.  You should SEE some of the facial expressions he captured.  It was so hilarious, I almost left the worst ones in.  It's what I deserve, though.  This is what he was doing when I informed him it was picture time.

Don't tell him I showed you this!  It was too cute not to share.

Anyway, it was freezing outside, and all I could think of was how to stay warm.  So, I piled on leggings, a skirt, a tee shirt, a sweater, two cardigans, and a scarf.  And my sh*tkicker boots.  It worked like a charm.  Bring it on, winter!

scarf: thrifted,  knitted cardigan: Portland Collection for Pendleton,   plain cardigan: Anthropologie,  sweater: Forever 21,  skirt: Anthropologie,  boots: Frye

I have to say, I felt partially like a crazy cat lady in this outfit, but it was so dang comfortable that I think I can live with it.  In fact, if I had a third cardigan that would have fit over the whole thing, I probably would have gone for it!
I hope you all are surviving the end of winter!

Technicolor Dream

                                                                 Dress: Vintage
                                                                 Tights: Target
                                                                  Shoes: Forever21, glitter DIY
This outfit is perhaps a little costumey or a little Dorothy looking, but I really like the color combination of robin's egg blue (or is it turquoise? I don't really know) and red.  Also, it gave me an excuse to wear my glitter shoes, so I find that a win-win situation. It makes me feel like I'm in a technicolor movie!
